Who provides power in Redmond?
Redmond is served by Pacific Power, with Central Electric Cooperative covering many rural properties around town. Open high-desert terrain means wind and fire weather drive most outages.
We link straight to each utility's official map, because outage data changes by the minute. Not sure which utility you have? It's printed on your bill.

Why Redmond loses power
The storms and grid conditions behind most outages in Central Oregon, and what they mean for backup power at home.
Fire weather
Hot, dry, windy afternoons put Central Oregon in the state's highest wildfire-risk category. Pacific Power uses Enhanced Safety Settings that de-energize a line within a fraction of a second when a fault is detected. That prevents fires, but it can mean more frequent and longer summer outages. Shutoffs (PSPS) remain a last resort; Pacific Power did not call one in Oregon in 2025.
Snow and winter storms
Heavy, wet snow loads trees and lines, and outages on rural feeders can take longer to reach.
Long rural lines
Homes outside town often sit at the end of long distribution lines with fewer backup paths, so a single fault can take longer to fix.

How long a battery lasts in Redmond
Grid-tied solar shuts off during an outage. A home battery keeps your essentials running automatically, with no fuel and no noise, and solar recharges it every day the grid is down.
- Essentials on one battery
- ~20 hrs
- Solar recharge, December
- 12.2 kWh/day
- Solar recharge, July
- 41.1 kWh/day
Assumes a 10 kWh battery, essentials averaging 0.5 kW (refrigerator, lights, internet, furnace fan, phones) and a 7 kW array, using NREL PVWatts production data for Redmond. Even in December, solar here can cover a full day of essentials.
Already have solar?
Add a battery to the system you have
We add batteries to existing solar, including systems installed by other companies or by installers that are no longer in business. We check your inverter and electrical panel, then size a battery for the circuits you care about most.
Pacific Power customers can enroll in the Wattsmart Battery program, which pays you to share your battery during peak events.
